What do TruPrevent Technologies consist of?
Panda Security is the first company to incorporate the innovative TruPrevent Technologies into its range of products. These technologies are capable of detecting and blocking new viruses without needing to know them beforehand, i.e., before the antivirus has been updated against these viruses.
What is the difference between TruPrevent Technologies and the technologies used by antiviruses?
TruPrevent Technologies do not need to have previous knowledge of all the viruses that they can detect, unlike antiviruses that don't include these technologies. In this sense, they offer proactive, not reactive, protection, as they do not need to wait for the antivirus to be updated in order to react.
If antiviruses don't detect unknown viruses, how can TruPrevent Technologies do it?
Antiviruses are necessary to protect computers against known threats. They are the only applications that can detect and disinfect the threats that they are programmed to fight.
TruPrevent Technologies, nevertheless, are designed to detect the threats that can slip past current antiviruses, that is, unknown threats. TruPrevent Technologies are a complement to antiviruses, not a substitute for them.
How do TruPrevent Technologies detect unknown viruses?
Thanks to the use of behavioral analysis techniques that allow typical worm or virus actions to be detected. TruPrevent Technologies block the processes that try to perform malicious actions on the system.
Why do I need TruPrevent if I already have an antivirus?
Antiviruses are very effective at detecting and eliminating malicious code that they already know. If, however, a new virus appears against which the antivirus has not been updated yet, the antivirus will not be able to act on it. It is in cases like this that TruPrevent Technologies offer additional, effective protection against virus epidemics.
If TruPrevent Technologies allow known and unknown threats to be detected, what do I need an antivirus for?
The preventive TruPrevent Technologies do not replace or conflict with ‘traditional' reactive technologies. On the contrary, both complement each other to reinforce your computer's security.
The antivirus permanent protection offers a first layer of protection, detecting and eliminating all known viruses in a quick, systematic way. TruPrevent Technologies, however, offer a second layer of protection by analyzing the behavior of all the programs that escaped the permanent protection and are not known viruses.
This results in optimized processes. First, the antivirus permanent protection filters out known viruses, and then TruPrevent Technologies concentrate on examining the behavior of the rest of programs and block those that turn out to be unknown viruses.
Why do I need TruPrevent Technologies if I already have a firewall?
Besides detecting unknown viruses, TruPrevent Technologies also block attacks from network viruses (like Sasser or Blaster) and intrusion attempts. In this sense, these technologies are a complement to your personal firewall.
Firewalls allow or deny communication between your computer and the Internet. TruPrevent Technologies nevertheless scan the information that goes through the firewall in order to identify possible virus attacks or intruders before they reach your computer.
What is the difference between TruPrevent Technologies and heuristic technology?
Heuristic is an improvement already incorporated in most antiviruses on the market, and represents a step forward in detection of unknown viruses. However, heuristic is far less effective than TruPrevent Technologies as basically, it consists of a series of simple rules to scan files and can only detect viruses that are very similar to other known viruses.
TruPrevent® Technologies go way beyond this, as they incorporate complex techniques like behavioral analysis in order to detect programs that act like a virus, even if they are different from any existing viruses.
What operating systems do TruPrevent® Technologies support?
These technologies are compatible with the following Windows operating systems: XP, 2000 Pro, NT 4.0 Workstation, Millennium and 98.
What impact do TruPrevent® Technologies have on the performance of the system on which they are installed?
TruPrevent® Technologies have been designed with special attention to the impact they could have on the system they protect. These technologies incorporate specific consumption restrictions to avoid interfering with or overloading the CPU, so that you have sufficient resources to carry out other tasks.
What should I do if a suspicious program is detected in my computer?
TruPrevent® Technologies allow you to send suspicious files to our Virus Laboratory (PandaLabs), and move them to a special security area known as Quarantine. We will study the program and make a solution available to you through these technologies' automatic updates within 24 hours.
Once updated, TruPrevent® Technologies scan programs in the Quarantine area in order to disinfect them and place them again in their original location. In this way, you will make sure that files are virus-free when you use them.
