Multidropper.AYC is a Trojan that drops on the affected computer the Trojan detected as Siboco.A and the spyware detected as Omi.
Siboco.A creates a list of files to download and runs several files without user's awareness. Additionally, it stops the process explorer.exe, which makes the Windows taskbar disappear.
Omi displays advertising pop-ups on screen when the user connects to the Internet and downloads to the affected computer several DLLs and executable files from a certain web page. Additionally, it is able to update itself by connecting to this website.
Multidropper.AYC does not spread automatically using its own means. It needs an attacking user's intervention in order to reach the affected computer. The means of transmission used include, among others, floppy disks, CD-ROMs, email messages with attached files, Internet downloads, FTP, IRC channels, peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing networks, etc.
Multidropper.AYC is easy to recognize once it has affected the computer, due to the following symptoms:
- Many advertising pop-ups are displayed on screen when the affected user connects to the Internet.
- The Windows taskbar disappears, as the process explorer.exe is stopped.
