Brief Description 

    

VBSWG.Z is a worm that is easy to recognize, as it spreads very rapidly via an e-mail message with the subject Mawanella, and an attachment called MAWANELLA.VBS.

VBSWG.Z is considered a moderate threat, as its main objective consists of spreading to other computers and displaying messages on screen.

Visible Symptoms 

    

A clear indication that you have received VBSWG.Z is an e-mail message with the following characteristics:

  • Subject:
    Mawanella
  • Message:
    Mawanella is one of the Sri Lanka's Muslim Village.
  • Attachment:
    MAWANELLA.VBS

The worm activates when the attachment is run.

  • It then displays the following message on screen, asking users to forward the message they have received.



    VBSWG.Z only displays that text if it has failed to send out a message containing the virus.
