FF.E is a macro virus that prevents infected computers from starting properly from the Windows Operating system; they will only start up in MS-DOS mode.
Like other macro viruses:
- It reaches computers in an infected Word document, with a DOC extension. It is very easy to become infected with this worm because it spreads through the usual means used by viruses: e-mail messages, computer networks, CD-ROMs, Internet downloads, FTP, floppy disks, etc.
- From the infected document, FF.E infects the Word template (NORMAL.DOT file),spreading its infection to all the Word documents created with it.
An indication that FF.E has infected a computer is that it will not be able to start from a Windows operating system.
