This is an MS-DOS Trojan that caries out very destructive actions, as it deletes the system files listed below. Consequently it will not be possible to start the system from that point on:

  • The COMMAND.COM command interpreter.

  • The AUTOEXEC.BAT batch file, which is run every time the system is rebooted.

  • The CONFIG.SYS file.

  • Moreover, it also deletes files in other directories as well as other folders in the hard disk.

Additionally, Trojan/Hack.A displays a visual payload that consists of the following on-screen message: Close all programs and run any way!.

Visible Symptoms

This Trojan has two different types of symptoms. On the one hand, it displays a message in the screen with the following text: " Close all programs and run any way!.". The rest of the symptoms make it impossible to reboot the system any longer. The reason for this is the elimination of the following system files: The COMMAND.COM command interpreter, the AUTOEXEC.BAT batch file, which is run every time the system is started, and other files contained in the C:\WINDOWS directory.
