The Help and Support Center (HSC) is a feature in Windows that provides help on several topics. For example, it enables users to learn about Windows features or download and install software updates, among other actions.
If exploited successfully, MS10-042 allows hackers to gain remote control of the affected computer with the same privileges as the logged on user. If this user had administrator rights, the hacker could take complete control of the system: create, modify or delete files, install programs, create new user accounts, etc.
This vulnerability is exploited by hosting a specially crafted web page and convincing users to access it. The link to the malicious website can be distributed through different means, like email messages or instant messages, among others.
