MS08-039 is not categorized as virus, worm, Trojan or backdoor. It is a group of important vulnerabilities in Outlook Web Access for Exchange Server, which allows local privilege escalation in the vulnerable computer. The affected versions are Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2003.
If exploited successfully, MS08-039 allows to gain unauthorized privileges within the SharePoint site. This would allow a hacker to gain the same user rights on the Outlook Web Access as the logged-on user, such as reading, sending or deleting email messages.
This vulnerability is exploited by sending a specially crafted email message and convincing users to open it via an individual client's OWA session.
