Brief Description 

    

EICAR-AV-TEST-FILE is not a real virus. It is a program for MS-DOS, which is used to check the effectiveness and quality of antivirus programs and tools in detecting viruses.

EICAR-AV-TEST-FILE does not have any destructive effects; it activates the corresponding antivirus alarms in each of these tools when they detect EICAR-AV-TEST-FILE. If an antivirus program detects a virus in the EICAR-AV-TEST-FILE file, it shows that the program is effective. When this happens, it displays a message on screen.

When the antivirus program or tool installed in the computer detects the EICAR-AV-TEST-FILE file, the following message is displayed on screen:

EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!

This shows and checks the effectiveness of antivirus programs. If an antivirus program detects the EICAR-AV-TEST-FILE file, it shows that this antivirus program is designed to detect most viruses.
