Brief Description

Afeto is a worm that acts as a macro virus. It does not have a destructive payload as its only action involves disabling the macro virus protection and the dialog box that allows users to convert documents to a different version or control the changes carried out in the NORMAL.DOT template.

The objective of the worm is to spread to other systems. To do this, Afeto searches for the last nine messages in the Sent items folder and sends itself to them.

It is easy to become infected by Afeto, as it arrives in a Word document attached to an e-mail message. From there, it infects all other Word documents (files with a DOC extension  and the NORMAL.DOTtemplate).

Visible Symptoms

As with other worms whose main aim is to spread to other systems, Afeto does not show any visible symptom of infection.
