Brief Description 

    

BlackAngel.B is a worm that attempts to disable the processes belonging to several security tools, such as antivirus programs and firewalls, among others. It prevents users from accessing certain operating system tools such as the Task Manager and the Registry Editor.

Additionally, Four days after having infected the computer, it prevents the computer from being started, as it deletes all the items from several paths of the Windows Registry.

BlackAngel.B spreads via the instant messaging program MSN Messenger.

Visible Symptoms 

    

BlackAngel.B can be easily recognized, as it displays the following symptoms:

  • The user receives any of the following instant messages via MSN Messenger, which contain a link:
    - jaja look a that http://galeon.verti2/fantasma.zip
    - mira este video http://galeon.verti2/fantasma.zip jaja
  • When the user clicks on the link, an executable file that passes itself off as a Windows Media Player file compressed in ZIP format is downloaded to the computer:



    This file has a double extension, in order to trick users that have the option Hide file extensions for known file types enabled.
  • When the file is run, the following image is displayed on the screen:

  • Four days after having infected the computer, some dynamite cartridges with a countdown are displayed on the screen. When the countdown reaches 0, the computer is shutted down:
