Microsoft security bulletins for November

“I like to think that the moon is there even if I am not looking at it”
Albert Einstein (1879-1955), German-born physicist
(On November 14, 1969, the Apollo XIV spacecraft took off for the moon).

Madrid, November 14, 2007 – Microsoft has released two new security patches: MS07-061 and MS07-062.

The first patch has been classified as ‘critical’ and fixes a vulnerability in the Windows shell. Attackers could take advantage of this flaw to run arbitrary code. Microsoft has only identified ways of exploiting this vulnerability on systems using Internet Explorer 7. However, the flaw is present in the Shell32.dll file, which is included in all supported editions of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. Consequently, systems using browsers other than Internet Explorer 7 could also be affected.

The second patch has been rated ‘important’ and solves a vulnerability in Windows DNS Servers.
