Trojans were once again the most active malicious code in the third quarter of 2007. According to the online antivirus scanner Panda ActiveScan, Trojans were responsible for 32% of attacks on users’ computers between July and September. The second most active threat type was adware, which was found on 24% of computers infected. A long way behind came worms, which caused 8% of attacks.
Trojans were also at the top of the new specimens appeared in the third quarter of the year, as they accounted for 75% of the new codes detected by PandaLabs over that period of time, followed by adware (12%,) and worms (11%).
“The prevalence of the different types of threats responds to the financial interest of malware creators, as both Trojans and malware can be used to get money easily. This is accompanied by a reduction in the activity of the most active threat some years ago: computer worms”, explains Luis Corrons, Technical Director of PandaLabs.
