"In the depths of winter I finally learned there was in me an invincible summer". Albert Camus (1913-1960), French novelist. (Today, June 21, is the summer solstice)
Madrid, June 21, 2007 – The widespread propagation of the “Mpack” exploit installation kit uncovered by PandaLabs has underlined the importance of updates on computers.
Mpack enters computers exploiting several known vulnerabilities, and affects mostly systems with badly-updated Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers. However, it can also exploit vulnerabilities affecting Firefox, QuickTime or the operating system itself.
Generally, operating systems with the latest security patches released by manufacturers are considered to be safe. However, updates for the rest of the applications installed are also very important.
A multimedia player integrated in the system (QuickTime, for example) can be an entry point for malware if it is not correctly updated. Updates shouldn’t be limited exclusively to the operating system.
Panda Security offers users a system for checking the presence of malware on computers. This tool, called NanoScan, is capable of detecting over a million different threats free of charge.
