Since installing a GateDefender Performa unit, it seems that HTTP downloads of big files have slowed down. Why is this?

When downloading files via http via a GateDefender Performa unit, the file is retained by GateDefender in order to scan the content. The download speed is exactly the same as if the protection wasn’t there, but users could think that the speed of the download is slower, as until Panda Gatedefender Performa has retained the complete file to scan it, no window will appear asking about the download location.

Meanwhile, to prevent a time-out in the client, GateDefender sends small packets of file data. Finally, when the antivirus has received and scanned the whole file, it releases it all and this can give the impression that the download progress bar was stopped and then suddenly finishes downloading the complete file.
