Panda DesktopSecure for Linux is a product aimed at offering integral protection to the computers connected to the Internet, providing effective protection against any computer virus, as well as other possible attacks (dialers, worms, hoaxes, intrusions, jokes, spyware, Trojans, vulnerabilities and suspicious programs).
This is the essential tool for managing all the security protection a network needs. Its innovative technology lets you install, manage and maintain a complete protection across your network simply and easily.
New features of DesktopSecure for Linux BETA
Its main features include:
- Deployment using native .deb/.rpm packages of the Linux distributions : It uses the software's package management of each distribution for the installation and uninstallation of the product.
- Silent installer in.deb/.rpm format : It includes a configuration file with the main installation parameters without being necessary the user's interaction for this installation.
- Adjustment to new distributions : The supported distributions of this version are:
- Ubuntu 6.06
- OpenSuse 10.1
- Fedora Core 5
- Red Hat Enterprise 4
- Debian 3.1 (sarge)
- Suse Enterprise 10
How the beta program operates
To take part in the Panda DesktopSecure for Linux beta program, all you need to do is complete the Registration Form which you will find on the Product Downloads page.
Then you will be able to access the product download.
We also offer you additional information about product installation, bugs detected and the minimum functionality tests recommended by Panda Software.
- Check the technical requirements needed to install the product correctly.
- Information about installing the product on your computer to start the evaluation process.
- List of known bugs. Find out the known issues of the beta version detected in tests in our QA department.
- Tests recommended by Panda Software to ensure the product operates correctly in your working environment.
- Report of suggestions and incidents detected with the beta version.
Technical requirements
- Minimum requirements: Pentium II 400+ MHz (or equivalent AMD): 128 MB. Hard disk: 50 MB.
- Recommened requirements: Pentium III 800+ MHz (or equivalent AMD): 256 MB. Hard disk: 200 MB.
Panda DesktopSecure for Linux BETA can only be installed in under the following distributions:
- OpenSuse 10.1
- Suse Enterprise 10
- Fedora Core 5
- Red Hat Enterprise 4
- Ubuntu 6.06
- Debian 3.1
The following libraries must be installed:
- GTK+ 2.0 (included by default with the distribution).
- libxml 2.4 (included by default with the distribution).
Installation and Setup
You can download the BETA version of DesktopSecure for Linux here.
The installation is different if you use distributions that require deb or rpm packages:
DEB PACKAGES
For Debian and Ubuntu distributions. Follow these steps to carry out the installation:
1. Copy in the computer the downloaded files:
- Ubuntu: -ubuntu1.01-r7967_386.deb.
- Debian: dazuko -source_2.2.2-1_all.deb and desktopsecure-debian1.01-r7967_386.deb.
2. It is possible that the downloaded files need execute permissions. Execute the following commands, in order to get those permissions.
- In Debian
chmod a+x dazuko-source_2.2.2-1_all.deb .
chmod a+x desktopsecure-debian1.01-r7967_386.deb.
- In Ubuntu
chmod a+x desktopsecure-ubuntu1.01-r7967_386.deb.
3. In order to install the deb packages on the system in the case of Ubuntu and Debian you also need to install the debhelper and module-assistant packages. The commands that need to be executed are:
- apt-get install debhelper
- apt-get install module-assistant
- In Debian
dpkg –i dazuko-source_2.2.2-1_all.deb
dpkg –i desktopsecure-debian1.01-r7967_386.deb
- In Ubuntu
dpkg –i desktopsecure-ubuntu1.01-r7967_386.deb
4. The license agreement will appear now. Click on Yes to accept the license agreement. If you click on NO, the installation process will not continue.
5. Panda DesktopSecure for Linux will start copying the files needed to install on your computer the different types of protections against malicious software.
6. The installation is now completed. We recommend you to restart the computer now in order to activate all the protections. Make sure the that the option Yes, I want to restart my computer now is activated and click on Finish.
Once the product is installed, your computer will be protected by the default configuration. You can launch DesktopSecure's console f rom the applications menu, selecting Panda DesktopSecure.
RMP PACKAGES
For distributions such as OpenSuse10.1, Red Hat Enterprise 10, etc. Follow these steps to carry out the installation:
1. Copy the downloaded rpm file: desktopsecure-1.01.00-1.r7967.i386.rpm
2. It is possible that the downloaded files need execute permissions. Execute the following commands, in order to get those permissions.
- chmod a+x desktopsecure-1.01.00-1.r7967.i386.rpm
3. To install the rpm package on the system, you have to execute the following command:
- rpm –ivh desktopsecure-1.01.00-1.r7967.i386.rpm
4. Panda DesktopSecure for Linux will start copying the files needed to install on your computer the different types of protections against malicious software.
Once the product is installed, your computer will be protected by the default configuration. You can launch DesktopSecure's console in two different ways from the applications menu, selecting Panda DesktopSecure.
Updates
You have to configure the updates in order to carry out them and, thus, to keep a optimum security level against malicious software. To do this, follow the steps below:

- Working in general with the PC with the antivirus installed.

Remember that for us to process your report we needed to include the following data:
- Distribution on which you have installed the product and the language.
- Description of the incident.
- Detailed description of how to reproduce the operation.
