Antivirus settings of Endpoint Protection

Information applies to:

Products
Panda Endpoint Protection
Panda Endpoint Protection Plus

Attention!

The instructions indicated in this article apply to the traditional management platform. If your query refers to a product based on Aether Platform, please access the article on the required URLs and ports for products based on Aether, or else, check the Knowledge Base, where you will find answers to frequently asked questions.

If you still haven't switched to Aether, please contact your sales representative or reseller and request the platform migration.

The Endpoint Protection settings are based on the creation of profiles and groups of computers to which specific policies are assigned.

To configure the antivirus settings in a profile, proceed as follows:

  1. The default profile and the profiles created will be displayed in the Profiles section of the Settings tab.
  2. Each profile has six sections: General, Antivirus, Firewall, Device Control, Exchange Servers and Web access control (the latter two options are only configurable for licensed customers of PCOP Advanced).

These sections will be displayed in the tree on the left of the console once you have selected the profile to edit or create.

Antivirus settings - File protection tab

You can enable/disable the permanent file protection, allow the protection to scan within compressed files, specify the malicious software to detect and enable/disable behavioral detection.

  • Enable permanent file protection: This option allows the administrator to enable or disable the protection.
  • Scan compressed files: The permanent protection can be configured to scan within compressed files.
  • Software to detect: Allows the administrator to select the types of malware to be detected by the permanent protection:
    • Viruses (viruses are always scanned for, virus detection cannot be disabled)
    • Hacking tools and potentially unwanted applications
    • Suspicious items
  • Behavioral detection technologies: From version 6.0 we have included a new technology that blocks dangerous actions typically performed by malware, like launching an executable file from a Word document.

This technology uses a set of rules based on Panda’s malware knowledge and included in the new signature files.

Additionally, upon clicking Advanced settings, you will be able to select different items to exclude from the file protection, namely:

  • Extensions
  • Folders
  • Files

You can also enable the option to Scan files with any extension when created or modified.

Antivirus settings - Mail tab

In this section you can enable/disable the email protection, allow the protection to scan within compressed files and specify the malicious software to detect. The email protection scans emails at protocol level. It scans inbound emails (POP3 protocol).

The Mail section provides the following options:

  • Enable permanent mail protection: This option allows the administrator to enable or disable the protection.
  • Scan compressed files: The permanent protection can be configured to scan within compressed files.
  • Software to detect: Allows the administrator to select the types of malware to be detected by the permanent protection:
    • Viruses (viruses are always scanned for, virus detection cannot be disabled).
    • Hacking tools and PUPs, suspicious items and Phishing.

Additionally, upon clicking the Advanced settings link you will be able to select different extensions to exclude from the scans.

Antivirus settings - Web tab

This section specifies how the Web protection works. It is possible to enable or disable the protection for Windows Workstations and Windows Servers (from 6.81 version).

You can also set the configuration to detect Phishing or not. As long as the protection is enabled, viruses will always be detected, by default.
