Panda Security furthers social initiatives through a collaboration agreement with Special Olympics

3/5/2009.

This agreement comes within the framework of the company's social responsibility policy, which includes awareness campaigns, sponsorship and collaboration with various NGOs

Panda Security, a global leader in IT security, has become an official sponsor of the Special Olympics, as announced jointly today by both organizations.  Special Olympics is one of the most passionate and socially beneficial projects of the world of sports. As a sponsor, Panda will collaborate actively in projects and make donations to the organization from the sale of its products.

Panda Security’s sponsorship of the Special Olympics is part of its program of Corporate Social Responsibility, which includes other initiatives such as free Internet security awareness campaigns for children, sponsorship of the Paralympic athlete Javier Conde or collaboration with the “Close the GAP” NGO in bringing new technologies to developing countries, thereby helping to bridge the digital gap.

“All Panda clients will be able to see the inscription in the 2009 products boxes, and will therefore know that when they buy Panda solutions, not only will they get the best protection on the market, but they will also be actively helping key social development projects, such as the Special Olympics”, explains Juan Santana, CEO of Panda Security.

“Nowadays, many companies are aware of the importance of their social responsibilities, and the importance of these responsibilities for employees, shareholders and society in general. Panda Security is one of these companies”, confirms Gaizka Ortuzar, President of the Special Olympics in Spain. “This collaboration agreement between Panda Security and Special Olympics will help many people with intellectual disabilities take part in sport, and will also demonstrate the values of the company, values which are fundamental for its success. One’s personality is created by the way one acts”.

The aim of the Special Olympics is to promote sports among people with intellectual disabilities. It is based on the philosophy that anyone can learn, enjoy and benefit from actively participating in team or individual sports. Special Olympics is recognized by the International Olympic Committee and is present in more than 180 countries and regions. It helps almost two million people take part in sport, and has around half a million volunteers, as well as technicians and supporters around the world. With training and competitions taking place all year round, Special Olympics helps those with intellectual disabilities enjoy the value of sport.

In many instances, the organization is the only way in which these people have an opportunity to play an active part in their communities and develop confidence in themselves. Many such people have previously been abandoned or isolated, excluded from schools and society in general. By helping them become athletes, Special Olympics is opening the door to development, integration and happiness.
