Panda Software is sponsoring the fourth edition of the MESE Program created and organized by the Junior Achievement Foundation Spain.

This initiative, as with other such actions that Panda Software regularly supports, is part of the company's commitment to promoting projects that contribute to progress as a provider of social benefits.

MESE (Management and Economic Simulation Exercise) is a computer simulation exercise, involving virtual companies made up of 16 to 19-year old students competing in the production and sale of a product.

Each group of students creates and names a ‘company' which is registered with the competition. The students are the directors of the companies and will be responsible for all decision making. The companies should produce an innovative and revolutionary product that represents a technological breakthrough.

The competition is organized between teams from colleges and universities across Spain and uses the MESE program to give the participants the opportunity to analyze and interpret the financial reports of a company. The decisions participants have to take will require strategic planning and in-depth analysis of information.

The overall objectives of the program are to promote creativity, initiative, teamwork, responsibility and offer the students the chance to apply and develop the knowledge learned in the classroom.

The final, which will take place during a one-day event in Madrid, will see the teams pitched against each other face to face. The awards will be presented at the end of the contest in a ceremony to be attended by Panda Software's directors. The finalists will also have the chance to visit Panda's Bilbao headquarters and get first hand experience of how the company operates. The finalists will also be able to represent Spain in the international competition “The 2005 HP Global Business Challenge”.

The Junior Achievement foundation, established in the US in 1919, is now the world's largest international non-profit making education organization. Its programs reach more than six million young people in 115 countries and 30 languages.

The Junior Achievement Foundation Spain was set up in 2001 thanks to the enthusiasm of various education authorities and members of the business community. It aims to generate an entrepreneurial spirit among youngsters which will allow them to achieve their goals in a context of responsibility and freedom. The foundation strives to reach these aims through education programs aimed at students from 5 to 21-years old, and developed voluntarily by professionals selected and trained specifically for the task.
